Interiors

The industrial heritage of Collingwood played a significant role in the internal and external design. The interior design incorporates a mix of timber floors, exposed brick, and concrete to reflect the area’s working-class history and honour the spirit of the historic site. Sweeping views of the city and the tower itself ensure a connection to the neighbourhood is maintained. Each individual residence is complemented by either a standard dark or light colour scheme, with the considered inclusion of natural materials including warm timber and stone.

History

During the heyday of the nineteenth century, Collingwood’s manufacturing and brewing industries were booming. In response to the increased demand for ale, John Wood and his architect son, James, selected a two-acre site on Robert Street to build the Yorkshire Brewery. Construction began in 1876, with the focal point being a remarkable six-storey polychrome brick brew tower that was visible for miles around. The brewery was bought by Carlton and United Breweries in 1909 and ceased operations in the 1950s.
